Children are the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. As of the 2025/2026 session, climate change has not been integrated into the school curriculum in Nigeria. This wide vacuum encouraged us to make school outreaches our first priority. We go to schools, to teach pupils and students about climate change, ways they can reduce their subsceptibility to the impacts of climate change, and how they can contribute to mitigating the effects. Our sessions are interactive, using real life scenarios, stories and questions to engage the children.
The responsiveness of the school authorities keeps us going. The kids are always eager to learn, and put what they learn to good use. The teaching session ends with a song that summarizes the 4 key climate actions they need to take: reduce their use, reuse their things, recycle and plant trees. This helps them remember what they have learnt even better.
The second session is an art workshop where the students upcycle waste materials into beautiful artworks. We leave these crafts created by the students as decorative pieces for their head teachers' desks. For their classrooms, we gift educational banners, waste bins and packers to serve as constant reminder of the key actions we all need to take for a greener earth.
